It took me a while to feel things about Brendan. But how can the heartbroken celebrate others' true love? When she reconnects with her childhood best friend, surprisingly sexy and all-grown-up casino bouncer Brendan West, Dakota wonders if maybe she can fall back in love with being in love. Even better than that he understands what she is going through and he is there for her yet again. I enjoyed the writing and found it easy to connect to both of the characters. It was different from what I am used to.
Just Jilted is a good example of a diamond in the overwhelming sea of eBooks that are constantly on sale on the iBooks store, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a summery fun-while-it-lasts read. Sometimes you had to simply dive in without knowing the end game. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happens for Dakota Halifax, add to the fact your fiancé has been less than honest with you about a few things, and your long lost and now extremely hot best-guy-friend has returned to town and you have a whole lot of problems, instead of your happily ever after! But when her childhoo I've read enough of Cindi Madsen's books to know that it's highly likely I won't be disappointed.
The characters, Dakota and Brendan, aren't overly interesting but their not boring either. The entire book is told from her point of view and she has a normal girl point of view with the additional benefit of the fact that she's a wedding planner and spends her days dealing with life's trials. One who can pull off just about anything: hair mishaps, animal mishaps even family mishaps she can handle. She tries to conceal her emotions from everyone around her but we can see how she is really feeling. Madsen's characters were very engaging and entertaining.

He came back into her life at just the right time to help her through a rough patch of being jilted on her wedding day. And that's what it did for me. Just like the first book I read by Madsen, I found myself lost in the story and struggling to put it down. This is a book low on angst and high on life. I actually found myself caring more for some of the secondary characters Wild Bill, Jillian, etc. When she reconnects with her childhood best friend, surprisingly sexy and all-grown-up casino bouncer Brendan West, Dakota wonders if maybe she can fall back in love with being in love. I wanted to throw him off the boat and cheered at the thought of Dakota taking him out with the ice bucket.
Her writing style and development of characters is just magical. Grant is the guy that left her at the altar. Which is why her own wedding has to be nothing short of perfect. You got your distressed female protagonist. She soon discovers herself along the way and even might get lucky in love again. And then her fiancé jilts her.
Without it, she'd be even crazier. What's fun about this story is the smiling. This was such a sweet romantic read that had me smiling and laughing throughout, and I found it impossible to put down. That should be enough to keep her vulnerable independence shaky now add in a jealous reporter making all kinds of havoc for her. This book was simply a good, fun, entertaining read. She sits at her computer every chance she gets, plotting, revising, and falling in love with her characters. Her childhood bestie, Brendan moves back to town and looks her up.
